All told, more than 1,100 flights have been canceled since Thursday (June 14) because of the problem, according to a Bloomberg News tally. American’s hub in Charlotte has shouldered the bulk of the disruption, though the carrier’s hubs at Philadelphia and Washington Reagan National also have been hit with glitch-related cancellations.
The issue is specific to American’s PSA regional carrier, which flies 50- to 76-seat regional jets that feed passengers to American’s hubs. The glitch is not affecting any of American’s “mainline” flights or flights on other partners, but passengers scheduled to connect to or from those flights via PSA might be affected if their connecting flights are canceled.
Iceland is betting on its soccer fans’ famous Viking thunder-clap celebrations to provide a vitamin shot for its flagging tourism sector.
With a population of about 350,000, Iceland is the smallest country to have ever qualified for a World Cup. And despite being considered a favourite second team among global fans, few expect it to get past the group stages of the tournament, which pits the north Atlantic amateurs (the coach is a dentist) against mighty Argentina, Croatia and Nigeria.
For the locals, the team’s presence in Russia is still viewed as a golden opportunity to revive the tourism industry, now the country’s leading source of foreign exchange…..Click Here To Keep Reading
There are already a half-dozen major hotel projects in the works at Walt Disney World, but four more were just added to the list.
Nestled on the western edge of WDW Flamingo Crossings is a mixed-use development that has been in the works for over a decade, but only within the last 12 months has it really come alive.
Two hotels, a SpringHill Suites and a TownePlace Suites, did finally open in early 2016 but since then the development hasn’t seen much activity. Since Disney’s senior real estate manager Henry Thrash first confirmed in 2017 that the development was still in the works and about to be kicked into high gear, the area has seen a flurry of new permits: 2,600 apartment units are in the works for primary use by the Disney College Program, but most of the focus in this area will be on capturing budget travelers. The location along Toll Road 429 is close to the ESPN Wide World of Sports, but will put thousands of guests closer to Disney parks and further away from Universal’s…..Click Here To Keep Reading
IT WAS NO DOUBT NOT long after the very first family road trip took place that hotels and motels began looking for creative ways to lure in motorists. They may not be as ubiquitous as they once were, but for many decades, especially in North America, unusual or quirky roadside hotels dotted every highway, locked in a fierce competition for drivers’ attention.
Earlier this month, we asked Atlas Obscura readers to share their stories of the most surprising roadside lodgings they’ve ever stayed in, and as always, they gave us just what we asked for and more.
Across hundreds of responses, readers told us about roadside hotels shaped like old train cars and motels housed in former sardine factories. There were ramshackle sheds only good for waiting out a storm and lodgings where you can catch a drive-thru movie from the comfort of your room. And of course, the ever-iconic, ever-problematic Wigwam Villages came up more than once. Each one an amazing or unique place to stay.
Sure, all your friends seem to be going to the beach, tubing or camping for their summer vacations. But you haven’t really experienced summer in Texas until you’ve visited a ghost town.
The towns have long been abandoned by its former residents but remnants of their existence remain in the form of buildings, monuments and forgotten history. Some of them are practically empty now because of devastating hurricanes, drought, dam breaches or economic collapse…..Click Here To See More Ghost Towns
